The objectives of the World Heritage Convention are the identification,
protection, conservation, presentation and transmission to future generations
of the world's natural and cultural heritage. Nomination of properties is
the responsibility of States Party to the Convention, but a range of global
and regional studies have been undertaken to support national assessment
of potential sites, and to assist in evaluation of nominations.
