Differences between White-Band Disease and White Plague

Elkhorn coral, A. palmata with white-band disease.

 

White plague (WP) is similar in appearance to white-band disease (WBD), in that a prominent band of exposed white skeleton is visible adjacent to living tissue.

Unlike WBD, white plague affects massive, plating and branching corals other than staghorn and elkhorn coral (Acropora spp.).
