Abisha  Mapendembe

Abisha’s expertise bridges the environment and development sectors. His work for the centre focuses on exploring the linkages between renewable natural resources management and poverty alleviation/ human well-being, and informing policy. He is currently jointly appointed by IIED and UNEP-WCMC to coordinate and support the development of collaborative work on biodiversity and poverty, with a particular focus on mainstreaming of biodiversity-development in planning and policy, and strengthening the evidence base for poverty-biodiversity linkages. Abisha continues to contribute to UNEP-WCMC’s work on drylands, biodiversity and ecosystem service indicators, and capacity building thereof, national reporting on biodiversity among other things. Prior to joining the Centre, Abisha worked with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Birdlife International, Fauna and Flora International and the Centre for International Forestry Research on sustainable development and environment policy advocacy and research. In his spare time Abisha enjoys following his beloved Arsenal FC.
