Amelioration of Dryland Salinity using Native Tree Species in New South Wales, Australia

State Forests of New South Wales is a government department taking a leading role with four projects on the use of reforestation to ameliorate the growing problem of dryland salinisation. The trials will assess the potential of plantations for salinity control and carbon sequestration, and investigate the use of transpiration as a trading unit. The planted forests will be used to produce biomass for energy generation and charcoal, and provide a range of environmental services including carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement, land rehabilitation, and salinity control.
