Canada: Restoration of Open Forests and Grasslands in the Rocky Mountain Trench, British Colombia

The Rocky Mountain Trench Ecosystem Restoration Steering Committee has a vision to restore 135 000 hectares of the Trench to open grassland or open forest condition by the year 2030. The primary objective is to remove excess immature and understory trees to create and maintain a complex, ecologically appropriate mosaic of habitats that mimics historically natural conditions, when fire was an integral part of the landscape.
