Assessing implementation in CEE/NIS countries |

The UNEP Regional
Office for Europe has obtained financial support from the European Commission
to assist six countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent
States to assess implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The six countries involved are Albania, Czech Republic, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania,
Moldova and Romania. The project is being
coordinated by the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, and the
methodology is based on that developed in collaboration with the UK Government.
It also takes account of the proposed changes in format for national reporting.

for national assessment of implementation of the Convention on Biological
Diversity The assessment methodology
is based on an approach used by UNEP-WCMC in the United Kingdom during
1999, working on behalf of the UK Government. Experience
gained in carrying out a review of CBD implementation in the United
Kingdom The first tranche
of assessments was completed in June 2000, the second tranche was completed
in July 2000. All six draft reports are made available here for review.
Any further comment would be welcomed, although this will be reviewed
with the project teams before incorporation. Experience
gained in carrying out the assessments of CBD implementation in
Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. National
