Product Launch Announcement - 9th June 2005
The United Nations Environment Programme-World Conservation Monitoring
Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and IHS Energy today launched a landmark agreement
that will advance the oil and gas industry’s efforts to protect
the world’s biodiversity.
This new product will deliver a biodiversity information module
to decision makers in the oil and gas sector. Early access to this
information will enable companies to address potential impacts on
wildlife and their habitats before any operations begin. Another
advantage of the agreement is that UNEP-WCMC will use revenues coming
from the arrangement in consultation with partner data providers
to enhance the quality and currency of the data. It contributes
to other biodiversity data enhancement activities undertaken by
the Centre.
UNEP-WCMC and conservation partners will continue to make data
freely available for non-commercial conservation purposes.
See the Press Release for further
information.
