Since the natural recovery rate is quite slow in most boreal ecosystems, restoration is often the most effective way of ensuring the preservation of threatened and endangered species. The best approach is to focus restoration efforts primarily on nature conservation areas which are the most important for biodiversity in Finland. The sites are large, allowing for restoration of burnt and decayed wood across contiguous areas and helping to ensure effective planning and implementation of forest restoration measures.
