Funding Approach

Following a discussion about potential funding opportunities, participants concluded that aside from the global information and networking activities which will be co-ordinated and developed through the lead of WCMC, it is essential that proposals to address the regional priorities identified are initiated at the regional (or national) level, given the specific needs and different conditions encountered.

In addition it is likely that such regional initiatives will prove more acceptable to a wider range of potential donors, and they will help to build capacity at regional and national levels. However it is important that they include provision for effective 2-way information exchange between WCMC and the regional network nodes.

It must also be stressed that all such proposals should be clearly seen to be part of an integrated programme for cloud forest conservation, working towards a common vision which is contained in the Statement from this workshop.
