CONCLUSIONS
Key Recommendations
From the range of activities
proposed at global and regional levels, a common consensus was reached on
the following points of recommendation.
The need to update and
revise the TMCF database and directory, in collaboration with WCMC is a
priority in all regions.
Special emphasis must
be given to the identification, inventory and prioritisation of sites for
research and conservation in relation to threats and values. In additional
standardised monitoring techniques to measure function and condition should
be developed.
A global TMCF network
with an identified focal point (WCMC) is a priority. From this a number
of linked regional networks can be developed linked, in order to co-ordinate
research, capacity building and awareness raising activities within regions.
Co-ordination between national initiatives may also improve access to funding.
Given the regional differences
and the need for a clear message, a series of regionally focused popular
documents produced in an appropriate range of languages should be developed,
and widely distributed at all levels.
Cloud forest issues
and the recommendations of this workshop should be actively promoted at
forthcoming meetings, conferences and other fora.
Management activities
should promote interactive, participatory techniques, as part of an integrated
landscape approach.
