Nicaragua, "...Esta tierra de lagos y volcanes...", was the host country for the workshop and is thanked for the warm welcome received by participants.

The first regional workshop was held in Nicaragua, February 2005
18 species in international trade of conservation concern were identified
14 species were considered to be in need of further information and regional action (Table 1)
4 species were recommended for consideration by the CITES Plants Committee (Table 2)
General recommendations for action were also made
