Freshwater

Freshwater is absolutely essential for human survival. As well as being one of the planet’s most valuable natural resources, freshwater is also its most vulnerable. The demand is becoming increasingly hard to supply without damaging the habitats of species.

UNEP-WCMC has produced a global assessment of areas of special importance for freshwater biodiversity. Our information goes towards helping improve planning and management on a global and regional scale.
