Head of Human Resources

A vacancy has arisen for a Head of Human Resources. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and as a member of the Management Team, the successful candidate will work to ensure that HR policies and practices across the Centre are of the highest standards. He or she will work alongside senior managers to enhance the collaborative culture and capability of the Centre, leading the HR plan and team.

This is a varied, hands-on role which would best suit someone with a strong operational background and the hunger and potential to move into a more strategic role.

Key responsibilities

The Head of Human Resources will participate in the Centre’s growth plans, provide support to managers, support key initiatives, take full responsibility for HR operations and manage a small team.

This will include:

  • Implementing an HR plan to support the needs of the organisation.
  • Acting as a business partner to senior managers to develop an understanding of the importance of good HR practice / leadership.
  • Advising on a wide range of HR related issues.
  • Ensuring processes and policies are fit for purpose.
  • Ensuring compliance with current employment law issues.
  • Implementing a new, simplified performance appraisal system to ensure all staff have clear objectives and development plans.

The candidate

With a good first degree and CIPD qualifications, you will be used to working with highly qualified and committed people and will have the confidence and ability to lead the people plan for the Centre. You will have excellent communication skills, be articulate and confident in your delivery, have the ability to inspire others and to actively participate in the leadership of the organisation. You will be resilient with the ability to analyse complex situations and an interest in conservation and biodiversity will be an asset.
