The United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) aims to put the best available biodiversity information in front of national, regional and global decision makers. The Centre is the result of a collaborative agreement between UNEP and WCMC, a UK Charity.
The primary purpose of this position is to lead development of informatics solutions to the data management needs of international organisations that protect species. The successful candidate will support the identification, specification and development of web-based and database applications that address the needs of clients and users.
The post holder, reporting to the Head of Informatics, will work closely to deliver IT support to enable the Species Programme to deliver new and existing services to existing partners such as MEA secretariats, regional bodies and others. Working closely with Species Programme Staff, the post holder will translate the technical need of partners into efficient web-based data collection and delivery mechanisms.
This enthusiastic, self starter will be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of relevant technology (Ruby on Rails, Postgresql, .NET, Microsoft SQL server) as well as experience in project management. An interest or experience in environmental conservation would be an advantage.
