Jon Hutton was appointed Director of UNEP-WCMC in November 2005. He is responsible Centre’s strategy and delivery and manages its overall engagement with UNEP and external partners.
Before his appointment to UNEP he worked for a range of institutions in southern Africa, including the Zimbabwe government, and subsequently ran a number of organisations in the region.
Jon has a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge and a DPhil in crocodile ecology from the University of Zimbabwe. He has produced over 50 peer -reviewed publications covering issues such as conservation policy, wildlife management, community–based natural resource management, the sustainable use of natural resources and the relationship between conservation and poverty. He is a Senior Member of Hughes Hall College, Cambridge, and Honorary Professor of Sustainable Resource Management at the University of Kent.
