Employment OpportunitiesThe World Conservation Monitoring Centre is the biodiversity information and policy support arm of the United Nations Environment Programme whose aim is to place authoritative biodiversity information in the hands of the world's environmental decision-makers in all sectors. Based in Cambridge, UK, we are now seeking additional enthusiastic people for the following exciting and challenging opportunities within our Centre. There are three new positions available:Biodiversity Web Applications Developer The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, based in Cambridge, UK, is the specialist biodiversity information and assessment centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), run cooperatively with WCMC 2000, a UK charity. The Centre’s mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making. Since its establishment in the 1970s, it has been at the forefront of the compilation, management, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity information, and has an outstanding record of achievement. Following the growth of the Web Unit within the Informatics Department, a permanent position now exists for a Biodiversity Web Applications Developer to join the team. The successful candidate will have had exposure to species and ecosystem data, data modelling, development of XML schema, developing web services, and developing distributed databases/web portals. Proven experience in training and/or exposure to formal analysis and design methods is also desirable. The ideal candidate will be passionate about web application development with a proven track record in developing innovative web tools. This role would suit a conservation biologist or geographer who has cross-trained in web application development (or vice versa). Extensive experience of VB/C#, .Net, RDBMS, ArcGIS, KLM development, SQLserver, XML and ASP.Net. Experience of ColdFusion, ESRI GIS Software and Oracle/Oracle Forms is also desirable. A position now exists for a temporary full time HR Assistant, to provide support to the HR Manager and working closely with the other team members.
