• One key series of statistics in the the Atlas demonstrate the calculation of coral reef areas by country.
• Indonesia has 19% of the world’s coral reefs. Some 82% of these have been considered threatened by human activities.
• Many of the world’s smallest and poorest nations are major players in the world of coral reefs. Their populations are often entirely reliant on coral reefs.
• At the same time, some of the wealthiest nations have a major stake, and should be considered to hold a considerable part of this biodiversity heritage in their hands
