Matt joined the UNEP-World Conservation Monitoring Centre at the beginning of 2008 to lead the Ecosystem Assessment Programme. This encompasses a broad range of work on biodiversity indicators, ecosystem services and linkages to human wellbeing and poverty reduction, including research, assessments, partnership facilitation and capacity-development. Matt also oversees WCMC’s Science Unit.
Matt has a PhD in ecology and has worked in both academic and NGO sectors focusing on inter-disciplinary approaches to conservation worldwide. Amongst other things, Matt has directed the Secretariat of the UK National Ecosystem Assessment, and has been a member of various indicator expert groups for UNEP, the CBD and the Millennium Development Goals. Matt lives in Cambridge with his family.
