EcoHack is coming to Cambridge

On 15-16 November, UNEP-WCMC will be hosting the Cambridge leg of the latest edition of EcoHack. With events taking place in six locations over three continents, this EcoHack is set to the most exciting one yet.

Since 2011, EcoHack has brought together designers, hackers and scientists to build tools and create visualisations that tell stories which help us understand and protect the environment. EcoHacks build technology that will have an impact on the way we look at or manage the environment. In the past this has gone from creating beautiful visualizations of data to learning about microbes in the air using balloons. Ideas are pitched at the beginning of the hack and the hackers work on the ideas that make them most excited.

This latest EcoHack will start at the World Parks Congress in Sydney, a once-in-a-decade event that presents an opportunity to share knowledge and innovation on protected areas, conservation and development. The EcoHack then continues in five more locations across the world, finally ending in San Francisco, USA. This relay presents 50 hours in which teams will work on multiple projects, one of which will be passed between the EcoHacks.

Anyone can get involved and UNEP-WCMC are excited to be hosting the Cambridge EcoHack. Even if you can’t attend, you can still follow the action on Twitter @EcoHackGlobal. For more details or to sign up visit the EcoHack website.
