Pan-African Business and Biodiversity Forum: Investing in Natural Capital for Inclusive Development

UNEP-WCMC is partnering with BirdLife International, the World Bank Group, and others, to convene a Pan-African Business and Biodiversity Forum that aims to promote increased sustainability within Africa’s development agenda. The Forum will be held in Ghana, 9-10 October and will be preceded by a UNEP-WCMC convened workshop that aims to bring together key decision makers within the oil and gas and mining sectors within Africa.

Africa’s untapped natural resources present a major opportunity for the region’s economic development. To ensure business practices and the development of new industries are sustainable, policy and planning must take into account the value of nature capital. The Pan-African Business and Biodiversity Forum will bring together the stakeholders who will have an essential role in ensuring that this happens.

With representatives from the public and private sectors, civil society, governments, and development organizations expected to attend, the Forum will provide opportunities for knowledge exchange and a greater level of multi-sectoral collaboration focusing on four thematic areas: extractive industries, energy-nature nexus, natural capital accounting, and sustainable agriculture,
