The UNCCD Secretariat has launched the final report of the UNCCD Impact Indicators Pilot study.
UNEP-WCMC supported the UNCCD Secretariat to pilot the indicators by working with 11 countries. Together we assessed the feasibility of reporting on a diverse set of land- and livelihood-related indicators, including poverty, land cover status, malnutrition and biodiversity.
During the pilot study, UNEP-WCMC facilitated two multi-national workshops and conducted a side event at the UNCCD 10th Conference of the Parties:
- Inception workshop on 11-13 July 2011 at the Sub-Regional Headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Mexico City, Mexico (workshop report)
- Conclusion workshop on 6-7 October 2011 and a side event, entitled "Iterative improvement through national pilots: The UNCCD impact indicators piloting exercises", held at the 10th session of the UNCCD COP in Changwon, Republic of Korea (workshop report)
The final report summarises the processes of the Pilot Study, analysis of outcomes and makes recommendations for refining the impact indicators.
