UNEP-WCMC does not assert any intellectual property rights in the data made available to it by data providers.
Access to UNEP-WCMC datasets is provided on the understanding that you read and consent to be bound by the Terms and Conditions set out in the policies below.
UNEP-WCMC shall not assert any intellectual property rights in the data made available to it by data providers. Wherever possible UNEP-WCMC will record the ‘ownership’ and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) associated with each of the biodiversity data sets it holds or draws upon and will ensure the necessary permissions are in place for its use. Where ownership and IPR are unclear, UNEP-WCMC will make fair and equitable arrangements with key stakeholders to facilitate its deployment to the benefit of conservation.
MoreOur success hinges on our reputation for reliability and the degree of trust that our partners have in us. As the bedrock for building this trust, we make a commitment that our collaborative arrangements will be transparent, fair and equitable.

Datasets Available from UNEP-WCMC: Excluding WDPA
Access to UNEP-WCMC datasets is provided on the understanding that you read and consent to be bound by the Terms and Conditions attached. For the purposes of this Agreement the “Data” comprise any of the spatial data and associated attribute data downloadable from the UNEP-WCMC website, excluding the World Database on Protected Areas.
Access to WDPA Data and any other content within the WDPA is provided on the understanding that you read and consent to be bound to the Terms and Conditions set out below. For the purposes of this Agreement WDPA Data comprise all the spatial data and associated attribute data contained within the WDPA.
UNEP-WCMC operates a ‘take-down’ policy, such that if UNEP-WCMC is notified of a potential breach of copyright, or other reasonable notice of a possible violation of any law (including but not limited to laws on copyright, patent, intellectual property, trademark, confidentiality, data protection, obscenity, terrorism, defamation or libel), the complete document or dataset or relevant portion will be removed from the repository as quickly as possible pending further investigation.
Where the grounds for complaint are considered to be valid, the complete document or dataset or relevant portion will be permanently withdrawn from the repository. A decision on whether the material may be made available again may take some time if it is necessary for UNEP-WCMC to seek legal advice to resolve the complaint.
