Simon is responsible for providing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) analysis and associated outputs to the business sector for many of the environmental impact assessment projects at the Centre. Such work requires accessing and disseminating information from a number of in-house and external datasets and from a variety of data types, scales and projections. He also gives support to the Protected Areas Programme with a particular focus on Ramsar Sites. He has worked at UNEP-WCMC since 1990.
Before joining UNEP-WCMC, he worked within local government in East Sussex for eight years, then following a full-time degree course worked for eight years at Petroconsultants (CES) Ltd. in Cambridge, where he worked on geographical and geological databases using very early and primitive GIS systems.
Out of the office Simon enjoys his home life, the allotment, fell walking, music, reading and making mechanical toys out of wood.
