Four major datasets were made available to UNEP-WCMC to integrate into this global database for the production of the 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants. These were provided by:

• The Nature Conservancy (for North and South America)
• the Australian Nature Conservation Agency (Australia)
• South Africa's National Botanical Institute (southern Africa) and
• Flora Europaea
