In the list, statistics are given for each family of the number of species
listed as threatened (excluding extinct species). A total of 372 families
out of an estimated 511 families of vascular plants (Brummitt,
1992) contain globally extinct and/or threatened species (see table
below). Not surprisingly, the largest families contain the largest number
of threatened species.
