The Species Programme supports the conservation and sustainable use of animals and plants worldwide.

We provide support to the biodiversity-related conventions through the management of species-related data and information. We manage and analyze species data and make this information available in various formats for access by all.

Support to CITES

UNEP-WCMC provides a range of support services to CITES. We manage the CITES Trade Database and the CITES Species Database, and support effective implementation of the Convention in many other ways.

UNEP-WCMC provides a range of services to the European Commission in support of effective implementation of the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations.

UNEP-WCMC maintains information on species of conservation importance, in particular those protected by multilateral environmental agreements.

UNEP-WCMC provides access to data, information documents and analytical tools relevant to the CITES community and other biodiversity related Conventions.

UNEP-WCMC produces reports for a number of fora including the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the European Commission and the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS).
