Environmental Economist (Permanent)
Salary Band D £33,000 - £37,000
WCMC is a UK charity, based in Cambridge, which supports the United Nations Environment Programme. We work in collaboration with UNEP, under the banner of UNEP-WCMC. Our mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making. Since our establishment in the 1970s, the Centre has been at the forefront of the compilation, management, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity information, and has an outstanding record of achievement.
WCMC is now seeking to fill the role of Environmental Economist to work with us on a permanent basis, contributing economics expertise to our work on biodiversity values and mainstreaming.

The primary purpose of this position is to undertake policy relevant work that assesses and communicates the values of biodiversity and ecosystem services to support decision making. The post will focus on our work with the UN-REDD Programme and, over time, contribute across our portfolio of work that aims to help support the economic case for using Green Economy approaches. Reporting to the Lead Economist, the post-holder will be working within the Climate Change and Biodiversity Programme.
The post-holder will contribute to the Centre’s work for the UN-REDD Programme by identifying resources and developing relevant outputs for the economic analysis of REDD+ options, developing new approaches to integrate considerations of multiple benefits and safeguards in REDD+ investment plans, and supporting collaborative national scale mapping of multiple benefits.
The successful candidate will hold a Masters degree or equivalent in a relevant field, and have proven experience of mainstreaming ecosystem services in policy making. They will also have a sophisticated understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnership-building and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
