Dr. Ben Halpern and UNEP-WCMC are collaborating on a range of subjects including: threat ampping and cumulative impact assessment, marine biodiversity, and High Seas risk assessment and conservation.
Dr. Ben Halpern is Director of the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) and Professor in the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara. He is also Chair in Marine Conservation at Imperial College London. He received his Ph.D. in marine ecology in 2003 from UC Santa Barbara, held a joint post-doctoral fellowship at NCEAS and the Smith Fellowship Program, and was then a Research Associate at NCEAS for the following decade until joining Bren School faculty. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles, was named One of the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds by Thompson-Reuters, awarded the A.G Huntsman Award for Excellence in Marine Science by the Royal Society of Canada, and the Peter Benchley Ocean Award for Excellence in Science.
