Helen Klimmek

| Conserved Landscapes and Seascapes

Helen contributes a range of projects related to marine and protected area governance and policymaking. She also engages with activities linked to ocean literacy, and is exploring opportunities to develop the team’s work in relation to sustainable tourism in conserved land and seascapes.

Previous experience & expertise

Helen has an interdisciplinary academic background in Marine Science (MSc) and Sustainable Tourism & Development (MA). She has conducted research into the ecological impacts of tourism on coral reefs in Marine Protected Areas in Malaysia and has also examined local community participation in the scuba diving industry in Flores, Indonesia. Prior to joining UNEP-WCMC, Helen spent three years at the IUCN European Regional Office in Brussels supporting the coordination of urban and marine biodiversity conservation projects.
