Our dedicated team combines scientific excellence, outstanding technical ability and a passion for nature
Jen’s work with the Species Programme focusses on supporting the implementation of species-related conventions and agreements, primarily the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations (EUWTR) and the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR). Her work includes the production of technical reports and assessments of species subject to international trade, to provide scientific support to policymakers.
Jen completed her PhD at Bournemouth University, in collaboration with Botanic Gardens Conservation International. Her research explored extinction risk of the world's commercial timber trees, with a focus on deforestation remote sensing and the application of the IUCN Red List categories and criteria to tree species. Prior to this, Jen gained an MSc in Conservation Science at Imperial College London, undertaking fieldwork in the Turks and Caicos Islands with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. She also holds a BSc in Biology with Science Communication from Royal Holloway, University of London.
Jen produces species status reviews for the European Union Scientific Review Group, to assist with decisions relating to trade in species listed under the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations.
Supporting UNEP-WCMC’s work to inform the implementation of the EU Timber Regulation, Jen is involved in producing analyses of relevance to the EUTR, writing briefing notes on recent developments of relevance to the EUTR, and compiling key information related to the implementation of the EUTR in timber source countries.
Jen contributes to the maintenance of the Species+ document library. The aim of Species+ is to provide CITES and CMS Parties with access to the information needed to issue permits for trade and to manage migratory species in order to improve species management.
