I joined the Centre in 2017 and have worked hard to build the team from 103 to almost 180 strong, developing the HR policies, People Team, employer brand and employee experience at the same time. I love working at UNEP-WCMC and also want everyone else to! I have also developed myself and am excited to have achieved CIPD Chartered Fellowship this year.
Head of People plays a central role in people strategy development to manage our people and ensure that our human resources programs and initiatives are effective, efficient, legally compliant and aligned to overall business objectives. Deliver creative solutions and adaptively manage and improve the Centre’s culture and employee experience.
Overseeing HR systems, handling employee relations, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing staffing budget. Assessing staffing needs and recruitment, designing training programs, to develop staff and progress staff benefits. Working collaboratively with fellow senior colleagues in achievement of the Centre's mission.
Melanie previously worked as HR Adviser at Cambridge University in the School of Clinical Medicine advising on a wide range of HR issues and casework management. She achieved an MA in Human Resource Management, CIPD level 7 in September 2016 in her own time whilst working 4 days per week, improving her insight into current strategic HR thinking.
Employee relations and leadership development are Melanie’s HR passions, these first being utilised as HR Manager within Tesco stores where she opened and operated 2 new stores. Melanie also has experience as HR Adviser to 20 schools, located across the UK.
