Melanie Ryan

Senior Programme Manager (Luc Hoffman Institute) | Science

As the Senior Programme Manager, Melanie oversees the design and standardisation of the Luc Hoffmann Institute portfolio of projects, including collaborative research programmes with UNEP-WCMC. She oversees the UK-based Luc Hoffmann Institute team members and consultants, ensures strong alignment with UNEP-WCMC Science priorities. Her other roles include project management, partnership development, providing advice on the use of methods to enhance science-policy engagement, as well as leading capacity-development and knowledge exchange activities.

Previous experience & expertise

Melanie is a programme management, design, engagement and facilitation expert with extensive experience in international cooperation, science-policy and environmental programmes. Over the last 12 years she has worked extensively in the conservation, water, environment, capacity development and sustainability fields. Her focus lies in delivering successful cross-sector engagement, facilitating knowledge exchange and programme development for meaningful social and environmental outcomes.

Having worked across a range of sectors, including government, cooperative research centres, NGOs and statutory bodies, Melanie is skilled at designing projects and partnerships that effectively tackle complex and challenging problems. Her research interests lie in designing integrated approaches to socio-environmental issues, understanding impact and evaluation, complexity and systems thinking, and capacity development for environmental management in the 21st century.
