Philip Bubb

Senior Programme Officer | Ecosystem Assessment and Policy Support

Philip’s work centre’s on developing capacity for countries to produce and use biodiversity indicators, and to include management for ecosystem services in their strategies. He is skilled in designing and running projects and workshops involving multiple partners and countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Previous experience & expertise

Before joining UNEP-WCMC, Philip led community-based forest conservation work in southern Mexico. He has a degree in Ecology, and a Masters in Resource Management.

Biodiversity Indicators Partnership | Capacity Building Coordinator

As capacity building coordinator for the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership (BIP) secretariat at UNEP-WCMC. Philip is responsible for the design and delivery of the BIP’s support for national governments to have indicators for their biodiversity strategies and policies. Activities include regional capacity building workshops and online resources including e-learning.

Ecosystem-based adaptation in Mountains project |

Philip supported the Climate Change and Biodiversity Programme, providing technical input to a guidance document on including ecosystem services and resilience in vulnerability impact assessments for Ecosystem-based adaptation, and training and advice to the Uganda and Peru project teams.

Situation analysis and research strategy for better understanding and management of ecosystems to reduce poverty in China | Technical Coordinator

Philip was Technical Coordinator of the China consortium of the Ecosystem Services and Poverty Alleviation Programme for the UK’s Department for International Development, Natural Environment Research Council, and Economic and Social Research Council, to produce the situation analysis and research strategy.
