UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) works on providing global marine biodiversity data and information that supports enhanced marine policy-making and decision-processes. The Marine Programme’s work involves innovating and testing new approaches, sharing effective practices, and capacity building towards the sustainable management of marine biodiversity and ecosystem services.
This is an opportunity for an undergraduate/postgraduate student with a background in spatial ecology, geography, marine science and/or related discipline, and experience in visual design and effective communication (e.g. infographics, brochures, social media), to contribute to the management and development of marine digital products within the Marine Programme, with opportunities for cross-programmatic collaboration (e.g. Informatics and Development Programmes).
This internship will involve preliminary discussion with relevant WCMC staff to determine the specific project direction based on the intern’s interests and WCMC’s needs. The intern is likely to be involved in: GIS mapping; database management; data visualization and communication; and all aspects of the production of an online and interactive digital product (written and visual content). These activities will be adjusted depending on the intern’s interests and skillset.
It is hoped that the intern will contribute to the Marine Programme’s development of value-added digital products that can be used to track progress against global policy targets (specifically, Aichi Target 19 and Sustainable Development Goal 14.a) and to further enhance the Centre’s impact. Time permitting, other work within the Marine Programme or with other programmes may be presented as an additional option to allow the intern exposure to the Centre’s wide range of other activities.
If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging internship where you can improve your technical skills and exposure to Marine we would like to hear from you. Please send your CV and a short covering letter to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 3rd 2017. Please note no application form is required for this post.
Please note that this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
